CONTEXT
As part of its sustainable development program “Sharing Beauty With All”, L'Oréal is turning towards more responsible supply chains. The group wishes to support farms that have ecological practices and to guarantee them fair remuneration.
In Morocco, a supply chain for quality olive oil has been set up with El Mohammedia Cooperative in the palm grove of Skoura (Ouarzazate Province). The cooperative stems from the desire of a small group of family farmers to get organized to better value their olive production. Two projects have been undertaken: the upgrading of the members' practices in orchards with the adoption of agroecological practices; the purchase of a plot of land and equipment necessary for the on-site processing of olives for better added value.
OBJECTIVES
Supporting the establishment of a sustainable supply chain for quality cosmetic olive oil with L'Oréal and its supplier Olvea.
More specifically:
- Strengthening olive production and processing practices
- Professionalizing cooperatives in the services rendered to their members, in their operations and in the establishment and development of their business relationships
RESULTS
- 2 professionalized olive cooperatives
- 1 supply chain of agroecological quality olive oil established
- 1 agroecology dissemination dynamics established in the palm grove of Skoura
