CONTEXT
The Limbé watershed covers 31,000 ha, in the Northern Department of Haiti.
Root and tuber, cereal and legume cropping systems generally located on deforested slopes are subject to intense erosion due to heavy rains. The deterioration of cropping areas leads to an overall decrease in the existing agricultural potential, especially as most family farms have no room for maneuver because of the land pressure of small-sized farms.
It is in this context that Agrisud has been operating since 2018 to secure farms over the long term and intensify crops for better development of agricultural plots.
OBJECTIVES
- Proposing sustainable agricultural models to reconcile food security, income generation, protection and restoration of natural resources, and adaptation to climate change.
- Improving access to water for families.
RESULTS
- 300 family farms supported, and agricultural sectors strengthened in their agroecological transition
- 200 families (1,000 people) with improved access to water
- 1 organization strengthened in its capacity to develop and implement the agroecological transition of territories
