BACKGROUND
As early as 2009, the idea of a partnership with a West African region appealed to the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, as many Aquitaine-based international solidarity operators are active in this geographical area.
Initial exchanges were organized with the Diourbel region in Senegal, which was seeking support in the agricultural sector among other things, given the problems of soil exhaustion, difficulties in accessing water resources, and the low level of interest among young people in the sector...
At the end of 2012, an Agrisud mission proposed an initial intervention on two pilot sites.
Since 2014, the Projet de Redynamisation de la Production Agricole des Exploitations Familiales has been implemented within the framework of decentralized cooperation between the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region and the Entente interdépartementale des Régions de Diourbel et de Fatick.
OBJECTIVES
It aims to :
- Create a framework favorable to the agroecological transition of the territories of the Alliance
- Support family farms in improving their activities within strengthened sectors.
- Promote a sustainable and inclusive agricultural development approach through skills transfer, awareness-raising, and advocacy actions.
RESULTS
- 7 regions supported in their agro-ecological transition.
- 1,818 accompanied in the improvement of their agricultural and para-agricultural activities.
- 2,000 people trained or educated on sustainable agriculture issues (50% of whom are young).
- 27 farmers' organizations supported
