CONTEXT
Through its partnership with Agrisud, Club Med has been progressively modifying its supply chain since 2009 to create and share more values locally.
In Mauritius, the project operates with La Plantation d’Albion village in the west of the island and further north with La Pointe aux Canonniers village.
In these two regions, small family farms face many climatic (cyclone periods) and socio-economic constraints (aging farming population with young people’s lack of interest in agricultural activities, difficulties in selling products on local markets...).
It is in this context that Agrisud has been supporting two groups of farms since 2020 to improve their results and develop their activities..
OBJECTIVES
Developing local supply chains according to a win-win principle:
- La Plantation d’Albion and La Pointe aux Canonniers villages benefit from quality local agroecological products, traceability and a positive image valued with their customers;
- Family farms improve their practices to produce quality products, in quantity and regularity, and benefit from new sales channels.
RESULTS
- 2 groups of family farms supported: Magic Earth Mixed Farming group and La Chaumière group
- 2 local and agroecological supply chains set up in early 2022 (post Covid-19 crisis)
