ENHANCING COMPLEMENTARITIES WITH LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS
What is the benefit of the partnership with Agrisud?
GRADIMIRH has been partnering with Agrisud since 2014, as part of the implementation of the first phase of the project for the sustainable management of the Limbé watershed and the assessment of the environmental impact of agricultural activities in northern Haiti.
The collaboration with Agrisud is of major importance to GRADIMIRH. Agrisud brings technical and methodological expertise that complements our deep understanding of the Haitian rural environment. This synergy has been crucial to the project’s success.
Thanks to this partnership, GRADIMIRH was able to facilitate the mobilization of local communities and strengthen the involvement of local stakeholders in activities implemented according to Agrisud’s approach, which was new to us at the time.
It also contributed to strengthening GRADIMIRH’s capacity through the acquisition of new tools and the training of its teams, particularly in agroecology. These gains are now fully integrated into the support provided to farming families engaged in the agroecological transition.
What concrete results on the ground?
Several significant changes have been observed among farming families and at the local level:
- adoption of agroecological practices that better protect the environment;
- increased agricultural production;
- higher and more diversified family incomes;
- strengthening and structuring of grassroots community organizations, which have become key players in local development;
- the emergence of community initiatives promoting citizen participation;
- reforestation and conservation of several hundred hectares previously severely affected by erosion;
- the introduction of new crops linked to reforestation and land restoration efforts.
How do you see the future of this collaboration?
Building on a long-standing partnership, GRADIMIRH and Agrisud have gradually established a balanced and mutually accountable collaboration in Haiti. Drawing on our complementary areas of expertise—in-depth knowledge of the Haitian farming community and methodological and operational support—our teams work together. Together, we aim to further strengthen this shared framework, particularly by consolidating our approaches to co-design and co-implementation, in order to amplify the partnership’s impact.
A final message to share about the importance of these actions?
As we write these words, Haiti is facing a socio-political and security crisis of unprecedented scale. The rural families we work with are not spared from this difficult situation. Despite an international cooperation landscape that has become more complex, we must, now more than ever, continue our joint efforts to strengthen their resilience and adaptability.
GRADIMIRH hopes to see this collaboration evolve so that a greater number of rural Haitian families can sustainably improve their living conditions.
