On December 2, 2025, Agrisud International and Initiative Développement (ID), with the support of the City of Bordeaux, brought together members of the diaspora and stakeholders involved in Haiti. Their goal: to show a country that is moving forward thanks to the energy of its citizens, far from the images of crisis too often relayed by the media.

Different perspectives to shed light on another reality

Hosted at Bordeaux City Hall, the event brought together around thirty people, including representatives from the city, the organizing NGOs, and the Haitian diaspora.

Céline Papin, Vice President of International Relations and Citizen Dialogue for the City of Bordeaux, praised this initiative, which echoes the city's policy on remembrance.

Agrisud International and Initiative Développement reiterated their shared desire to work alongside Haitian stakeholders and international partners to develop actions rooted in local realities.

Dominique Delpuech, former advisor to the French Embassy in Haiti, spoke about his experience and the energy that drives this country, which is essential for imagining new perspectives.

Youth: restoring prospects and empowering young people

The first round table discussion focused on initiatives to support young people in their career paths. Speakers emphasized the importance of offering them concrete prospects in a difficult national context.

Aude-Claire Pruvost, Director of ID in Haiti, explained how these initiatives enable young people “to resist the dangers that surround them, develop their projects, and build their future in their country.”

Entrepreneurship, community support, and backing for local initiatives are all ways to strengthen the confidence and independence of Haiti's youth.

Agriculture: strengthening food self-sufficiency and local areas

The second round table highlighted actions taken in the agricultural sector, which is essential given that half of Haiti's population is food insecure. Sylvain Deffontaines, Director of Operations at Agrisud, reiterated the key role played by family farms. Agrisud supports them in implementing agroecological practices to improve their production, supply local markets, and strengthen the resilience of their territories.

This approach also relies on grassroots community organizations, which play a vital role in mobilizing and taking action on issues such as access to water and youth integration.

Agroecology thus becomes a real lever for solidarity and citizen action.

The evening was punctuated by a poetic performance by Haitian playwright Rolaphton Mercure. It ended with the presentation of a photo exhibition illustrating the projects carried out by Agrisud and ID in northwestern Haiti.

The discussions showed that, despite the challenges, citizen and solidarity initiatives are opening up new avenues for the future. As Céline Papin pointed out, these testimonies are “sparks of hope that encourage us to continue working together.”
