Context / Issues
The partnership stems from Club Med’s strong commitment to strengthening the contribution of its resorts to local economic development. Club Med’s tourism activity generates positive impacts, particularly through local purchasing, which local communities do not always benefit from as much as they could, due to the lack of a viable economic fabric.
This commitment led, in 2009, to a partnership with Agrisud International.
Hundreds of small family farms in precarious situations are supported each year in managing their production and trained in productive, environmentally friendly agriculture. These farms can thus access new markets, such as Club Med, and look to the future with greater confidence. On the Club Med side, delicious, fresh, local, healthy, and meaningful products are offered daily on the buffets.
The partnership is currently active in 8 countries, involving 11 resorts.
The principles guiding the partnership
For family farms:
-
Production: Improved quantity, diversity, quality, and consistency; greater resilience to climate hazards (agro‑ecological production).
-
Product flow: Coverage of food needs and availability of surpluses for sale; regularity and security of income.
-
Professionalization: Agro‑ecological practices, small farm management, commercial negotiations…
For territories:
-
Natural resource management: Preservation of soils and water resources, improved biodiversity within farms.
-
Economic dynamics: Better supply of local markets with fresh products (food security), wealth creation.
-
Knowledge sharing: Dissemination of agro‑ecological practices to other farms, professional organizations, and state agricultural technical services…
For Club Med:
-
Products: Quality (fresh, seasonal, local, environmentally friendly, and meaningful products).
-
Operations: Opportunities to enrich the offer and services: excursions, demonstrations, exhibitions, conferences around the project.
-
Territorial integration: Stronger local anchoring of resorts, contribution to the prosperity and resilience of territories.
-
Image: Project directly beneficial to customer perception and institutional reputation…
