As part of the Euro-Africa Biennale, held in Montpellier from 6 to 12 October 2025, the conference on new forms of cooperation between Europe and Africa brought together a diverse range of actors involved in transitions: local authorities, researchers, businesses, NGOs, etc.

The opening speech by Michaël Delafosse, Mayor of Montpellier, focused on the need for openness in a world marked by geopolitical tensions and identity-based isolationism, reminding us how international cooperation is more essential than ever. This political message gives full meaning to the dynamics promoted by the Biennale, affirming that responses to global challenges can only emerge from open and supportive dialogue between territories.

Agrisud International took part in the conference and spoke at the round table discussion entitled « Agroecology in the face of drought and flood crises », moderated by Christophe Brossé (CARI). This session brought together speakers with complementary profiles: Oumar BA, mayor of Ndiob (Senegal) and a leading figure in territorial governance in West Africa, Mohamed El Fasskaoui, representative of the Souss Massa region (Morocco), and Laura Gilbert, livestock farmer and president of CIVAM EMPREINTE.

Adrien Lepage, Head of the Agriter programme, presented concrete experiences carried out with family farms in West Africa and Madagascar. His presentation highlighted how agroecology can strengthen the resilience of agricultural systems in the face of climate hazards, while promoting local knowledge and territorial dynamics. In particular, he stressed the importance of cooperation based on dialogue, shared experimentation and a firm grounding in local realities.

The AGRITER programme, which has been running for nine years, aims to establish a supportive framework for the development of sustainable agriculture. It assists family farms in improving their practices and supports local stakeholders in regional projects at the geographical, institutional, economic and socio-cultural levels. It thus creates the conditions necessary for the emergence of resilient agricultural systems, rooted in their territory and supported by concerted local governance.
