Establishment and development of local supply chains with Club Med Cap Skirring

CONTEXT

Through its partnership with Agrisud, Club Med has been progressively modifying its supply chain since 2009 to create and share more values locally. 

In Senegal, the project operates in the area of Cap Skirring, in Lower Casamance. Although the area is considered to be rather rich and varied, thanks to its forests, bolongs, its food agricultural activity (rice and groundnuts), vegetable and fruit crops remain poorly developed in view of the high demand for fruits and vegetables for the tourism sector. 

Since 2019, Agrisud has been supporting family farms to improve the supply of fresh products and increase the share of local purchases in the supplies of Cap Skirring Club Med village. 

OBJECTIVES

Developing local supply chains according to a win-win principle: 

• Family farms improve their practices to produce quality products, in quantity and regularity, and benefit from new sales channels. 
• Cap Skirring Club Med village benefits from quality local agroecological products, traceability and a positive image valued with its customers; 

RESULTS

• 1 economic interest group (EIG) supported in the development of its activities: the Batiaye EIG which includes some 180 market gardeners 
• 1 local and agroecological supply chain established with the Club Med village (on average 20 t delivered each season) 
• 1 business partnership established between the EIG and Cap Skirring Club Med village 
• 1 new sales channel as a result: partnership established with Casamasanté du Sénégal for the purchase and redistribution of fresh fruit and vegetable baskets to families in vulnerable situations in the region
