FAST: Development of a local supply chain for quality rice spirit

CONTEXT

Pernod-Ricard Group and its partner in Cambodia, Distill Co., want to create and develop a supply chain for quality rice spirit ("Rice Spirit Cambodia"), based on rice production in Takeo Province, south of Phnom Penh. 

It was planned that the final distillation plant would produce 54,000 L in the first year and 630,000 L per year during the full production period. 

To do this, it is necessary to structure the supply chain upstream of Distill Co.’s distillation plant.

OBJECTIVES

Establishing a sustainable rice spirit supply chain with family farms in Takeo Province, with a view to local economic development.

RESULTS

• 15 pilot family farms in Prey Kabbas District in Takeo Province have upgraded their rice spirit production to meet Distill Co.’s demand: process control, adapted equipment and hygiene. 
• 1 socio-professional farmers organization has been created and strengthened to meet Distill Co.'s standards and develop a sustainable supply chain based on a win-win principle. 
• Family farms are supported in the agroecological transition of their production system: rice farming, livestock (especially pig), and market gardening.
