December 2009:
Poverty, overlooked in Copenhagen. In Copenhagen, much discussion has revolved around issues of greenhouse gas emissions. Sometimes forgetting that aid to developing countries also depends on the fight against food crises.

Capacity Building Program in Congo

November 2009 :

From Monday, November 23 to Saturday, December 5, 2009, 11 Congolese NGOs and a representative of agricultural services attended a training session hosted by AGRISUD International in Kimpese in the province of Bas-Congo.

This training, funded by the French Embassy and Agrisud International, enabled participants to strengthen their capacity to support VSE (Very Small Enterprise). Indeed, methods and tools to diagnose, implement and evaluate projects supporting VSE have been presented throughout the session and have been practices. Participants also worked on methods and tools of communication and funding.

One of the highlights of this training has probably the application of tools in a situation on the field, through the participation of villagers Kitobola.

An assessment at the beginning and end of training will measure the learning progress of participants.

Solar energy in North Kivu

October 2009

Cofinanced with the European Union, Agrisud launched in June 2009 a project to develop sustainable agriculture in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo. This action structuring development on two territories (Beni and Lubero) and aims to support 1700 family farmers and to reorganize the commercial channels.

The SYDIP (farmers syndicate), 7,000 members strong, is also partner and beneficiary (association building capacity).

The project is located in the offices of SYDIP in Butembo, the main town of the region who do not have a domestic electricity network (600,000 residents). Instead of acquiring a generator to meet its electricity needs (lights, computers, printers ...), the existing team has opted for a small solar installation, like the SYDIP who already had one.

The solar system has been running for several weeks and the team members are satisfied ; the noise of a generator are discarded and the working environment is improved.
