February 2012
Since 2004, Agrisud International with support from the Accor Group provides support to small producers located in the outskirts of the town of Siem Reap.
In 2011, this partnership takes a new dimension with the introduction of a short circuit between producers supported by Agrisud and the Hotel Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Siem Reap.
To participate in this pilot initiative, 10 farmers were selected in the town of Real Krabei. After analyzing what local vegetables could meet the demand of the Sofitel, a calendar of culture was established to allocate production between farmers with the objective of providing an adequate supply and regular at the Hotel.
Other productions not yet brought under cultivation by farmers are being tested.
Every Friday, the farmers get together to meet the available supply for the next week and a newsletter is sent to the purchasing department of the Sofitel, which can then send its commands. A collector, also a farmer of the village, then takes care of deliveries at the Sofitel.
Thus, since November 2011, nearly 1,800 kg of fresh vegetables that have been delivered: dwarf cabbage, water spinach, kale, lettuce, eggplant, cucumber, green mustard, pet sai, wax gourd, bean stick, chives, Tang Ao, basil, parsley along, tamarind and chilli.
This initiative brings satisfaction to the farmers who present a better value to their products and an interest in the intensification and diversification of their production with a marketing circuit stable and known.
At the end of the dry season in 2012, a workshop will be organized to take stock of last season and prepare for the new season. It is possible that, gradually, the group of farmers who enlarges to offer the Sofitel greater supply, regular and varied.
