December 2011
The "food security for women and rural poor" project in the Viengkham district led by Agrisud in partnership with France Volontaires and the provincial agricultural services to Luang Prabang was completed in December 2011 after two years of implementation (2010 to 2011).
566 families in 25 villages in the district were supported to strengthen their agricultural practices in the areas of small livestock (pigs and poultry) and vegetables. They have reduced their rice deficit of 50% on average (59 days / year).
.jpg) 10 villages (1000 families) have been equipped with systems for water supply from catchment sources and gravity feed system.
23 villages have achieved with the support of their proposed land use plan (Participatory Landuse Planing - PLUP) and each has developed an action plan for villagers to 5 years. The participatory approach has been developed in collaboration with CIFOR-IRD-NAFRI.
1600 women were trained by the project and the Lao Women's Union to the principles of hygiene, nutrition, women's rights and family planning.
Agrisud plans to continue this action in the province of Luang Prabang through greater dissemination of agroecological practices in connection with the protection of natural resources and improving the resilience of agricultural systems to climate change.
This project was funded by the European Union, France Voluntaires, CIFOR and the Phitrust Foundation.
