Boosting local fresh produce supply chains for Club Med in Mbour, Senegal


In order to improve its positive effect on the local economy and its own local integration, the Club Med wishes to increase the part of local purchases in its global purchases.

Its partnership with Agrisud started in November 2008 to achieve this goal. The Saraba village, in the Mbour Department has been chosen to implement this process.

Sun pump installations for vegetable farming – Cap Skirring


In Cap Skirring, agriculture remains little developed compare to the high demand of the tourism sector for fruit and vegetables.

Implemented in this region since 2009, the project aims to develop agricultural VSBs to improve the local supply of fresh produce to the Club Med Village and local markets. Since then, around 170 families deliver more than 10 tons of a large variety of vegetables each year, for a turnover of more than € 10,000.

In 2014, in order to maintain these results, a project was initiated to install solar pumps in the gardens in order to guarantee access to safe and efficient irrigation water during the dry season.

Learning cycle “Management advice for VSB (Very Small Business)”

Agrisud International continuously strives to help strengthen the NGO response capabilities, associations, professional groups, but also those of its own teams. Transfers of know-how can take place through the implementation of "learning cycles".

Learning cycle  “Management advice for VSB (Very Small Business)”

From the guide "Managing Advice for family farm VSB" (Agrisud, 2015), this cycle is for local advisors assisting farmers or professional agricultural organizations. It is based on the transfer of methodologies and tools:

  • to know advice's overall approach and its variations
  • to know basic agro-economic concepts
  • to identify performance indicators (VSB) and environment's key information
  • to understand data collection and processing tools related to VSB results and environment development
  • to be able to realize an analysis of VSB results taking into account the environment
  • to be able to advise a VSB (sharing observations and follow-up)

Learning cycle promoting agroecological practices


Agrisud has a constant focus on boosting the action capacities of NGOs, organizations, professional groups, and also those of its own projects’ teams. Transfers of skills are made via « learning cycles ».

Promoting agroecological practices

Based on the “Agroecology in Practice” guide (Agrisud, 2010), this course helps participants learn these practices. 
It is based on transferring methods and tools to: 

  •  Understand agroecology and its economic, social and environmental dimensions;
  •  Understand the sustainable management of a farming system;
  •  Analyze the context of operation and identify the appropriate 
agroecological practices;
  •  Be able to spread these practices.

Promotion of local supply chains on the island of Djerba


On the island of Djerba, family farms are weakened by a number of constraints. Agrisud has been supporting them since 2012 in partnership with the Club Med.

There are two goals to this project: to introduce new agricultural practices to secure, diversify and enhance productions and also to increase the value of products in local supply chains to generate satisfactory income.

IDEAS: Strengthening agricultural activities for minorities in Hoang Lien National Park (PNHL) – Lao Cai province


Objectives: Sustainable improvement of the living conditions of farming families in the villages located in NPHL and its buffer zone by improving and diversifying their agricultural systems while preserving productive natural resources.

The National Park of Hoang Lien (NPHL) has 6 towns populated mostly by ethnic minority Hmong Day and Dao living from agriculture, forestry and traditional crafts.

These farming families face many agricultural difficulties and poverty rates remain high (53.3% on average), the main causes of poverty being:

  • Lack of agricultural land due to increasing populationideas-agrisud-vietnam-2017and land classification in protected natural park (since 2002) leading to the prohibition to open new fields of culture;
  • The vulnerability of crops and livestock to climate risks;
  • Low diversification of income-generating activities and high dependency on cardamom culture.
