In January 2011, Agrisud and the Hauts-de-Seine General Council started the “Siem Reap peri-urban agriculture diversification” project. The aim being to help small farmers and improve marketing and farming techniques as well as production diversification.
Between 2011 and 2013, 320 small farms were therefore supported in the villages of Krabei Real and Puok, in Siem Reap’s periphery, a very touristic area thanks to the Angkor temples.
In March 2013, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Siem Reap Province and the Hauts-de-Seine District. The latter has confirmed his will to maintain his support to the project by financing a new year, as concluded on the 10th of February 2014.
The aim is to keep following and helping the same small farmers but also to multiply supporting actions for other farms in the Siem Reap Province.
New actions would also provide the accompaniment of 350 additional small farms, with a special attention given to supporting rice culture and animating a local network to spread agro-ecology practices and values. Other projects are planned such as the establishment and animation of educational gardens, the promotion of local products and costumers sensitization. Some actions will also be taken to raise public awareness about hygiene and nutrition.
