Strengthening local supply chains for fresh produce – Rio das Pedras and São Paulo
The Club Med / Agrisud partnership reflects Club Med's desire to strengthen the contribution of its villages to local economic development.
In Brazil, Agrisud and its partners are supporting two cooperatives to upgrade their offer of local products, with a view to selling them to Club Med holiday villages:
The COMISFLU cooperative near the village of Rio Das Pedras, since 2015
The ECO VERDE cooperative near the village of Lake Paradise, since 2018
The objective is to set up and develop a commercial relationship in which each player benefits: regular demand and remunerative prices / of local products, and of agro-ecological quality to be valued by Club Med customers.

FOOD SECURITY SECURITY AND FIGHT AGAINST POVERTY IN NORTH HAITI
The Food Security Programme and the fight against poverty Northern Haiti (PSANH) is part of a decentralized cooperation between the Aquitaine Region (which provides most of the funding) and Limbe Commons Lower Limbe and Lemonade. He was identified and led by AGRISUD International in partnership with VETERIMED.
The Food Security project supports farming households in enhancing their business and agricultural sectors to create an enabling environment for farmers to improve their economic performance (income).

Boosting the local economy by reinforcing the manioc and groundnut value chains
Because some groundnuts and manioc clones can resist to drought they enhance the value of the very dry zone in northeast Haiti. They are part of a local production system responding to the local market’s demand. However identified constraints do not allow them to develop their full potential at the farmers’ expense.
The project’s aim is to sustainably improve the income in Limonade’ and Fort-Liberté’ rural households through stimulated value chains adapted to the agroecological contexts (groundnuts, manioc).

Program of Sustainable Management of Limbé’s watershed (PAD-Nord) – North-Haïti
In a context of soil degradation, great socio-economic instability and increasing impoverishment, the actions undertaken aim to protect natural resources, strengthen family agricultural VSEs in the improvement of their production systems and in the management of their activities as well as to structure the agricultural sectors.
Results: 600 farms spread over 300 hectares newly developed have benefited from this project since 2013. These families have seen their profits increase.
120,000 trees and 950,000 slope-fixing plants have been established. Over 20 years, almost 14,000 tonnes of carbon will be sequestered, which is largely beneficial from an environmental standpoint.

Project to support the rural community of Lombard (City Limbe) for improved drinking water coverage
An integrated management approach to water resources was proposed in the area of Lombard, which has a drinking water network established there 30 years and sized to supply the whole community but whose condition allows to supply more than 100 families in precarious sanitary conditions.
This approach is to rehabilitate and improve the capture of a source, put a storage device and chlorination and build a drinking water system for the community. To secure the source, infrastructure and stop the runoff excess water in homes, pouring 18ha (farmland 36 producers) will be developed in a process of improvement of production and reforestation systems.
The National Directorate of Water and Sanitation Portable is associated with the entire project to define the appropriate infrastructure and put in place a management by the community.
Eventually 400 families (2000 individuals) will benefit sustainable access to safe drinking water.

Economic recovery and food safety in the villages of Port-Salut, Roche-à-Bateau, Saint-Jean-du-Sud (phase 2) – South-Haiti
Agroecology and resilience against climate risks
At the end of September 2016, hurricane Matthew hit Haiti causing extensive damage on its southern part. Serious medium- and long-term food crises ensued as a result.
With the support of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and Léa Nature, Agrisud and its partner, Gradimirh, provided aid to Port-Salut, Saint-Jean du Sud and Roche-à-Bateau, the three most severely hit communities in Haiti.
The first phase entailed urgency actions in order to meet basic food needs for the afflicted families. Priority was given to the recovery of agricultural activities via the restoration of infrastructures and means of production.
The second phase will permit the recovery of the local economy. Producers will be encouraged to adopt agroecology and agroforestry practices for the better protection and management of the land. Agroecology offers a wide range of solutions which lead to reduced risks. Families become more resilient; they can actively manage their land and their environment and rebuild their lives in their own community.

Development and integrated management of water resources in the Bory and Beaulieu localities – Commune de Bas Limbé
The towns of Bory and Beaulieu are located in isolated areas subject to flooding and erosion problems. The objective of the project is to improve the living conditions of the populations by securing and enhancing the value of water resources.
The approach based on the integrated management of water resources adopted by Agrisud and its partner GRADIMIRH makes it possible to simultaneously meet the needs for drinking water and agricultural water while preserving the watershed. A drinking water supply and irrigation system for small market garden plots has been set up. The development of the watershed has made it possible to secure the source and the infrastructure while maintaining efficient agricultural activity. Thanks to the coordination of several partners and the involvement of communities, sustainable management of drinking water is implemented.
400 families now have access to drinking water from 2 standpipes. 13 ha of land are valued and protected according to agro-ecological principles. Local organizations are strengthened for the sustainable management of this scarce resource.

Adaptation of agricultural activities to climate change and the territory – Municipality of St Raphaël
Agroecology and Resilient territories
This involves carrying out research and support, capacity building and dissemination to farms in order to:
- promote the adaptation and improvement of sustainable and resilient agricultural systems;
- providing families with the knowledge and tools to adapt to climate change;
- create a conducive environment to better cope with agricultural constraints.
500 farms (20 groups) in the municipality of St Raphaël are involved in the co-construction and dissemination of agro-ecological systems and practices. 5 Haitian students from the Limonade university campus (doctoral students, masters and field internships) will be trained and will participate in the research carried out by the program.

Agroecological transition of farmer families and sustainable management of natural resources – Limbé watershed (Bory and Beaulieu)
In the Limbé watershed, the farms of Haitian peasant families are subject to significant constraints. The erosion of sloping soils reduces the quality and size of exploitable plots, does not make it possible to secure the crops in progress and threatens the Piedmont and plain crops downstream.
Experience has shown that the development of watersheds must be oriented towards actions relating to local development which take into account the economic and social aspects by integrating the empowerment of local actors. It is therefore urgent to propose rural development models that make it possible to reconcile income generation, protection and restoration of natural resources and adaptation to climate change.
The project aims to sustainably improve the income of peasant families through the development of sustainable agriculture at the territorial level. The expected results are as follows:
- efficient agricultural systems at technical, economic and environmental levels are implemented by 150 farming families;
- 20 master operators are strengthened, network and join PADED (Agroecology and sustainable development platform);
- access to quality water is guaranteed for 200 families (1,000 people);
- PADED* members are strengthened in their capacity to collect and process data for quality counseling support to families and the production of advocacy documents.
